The wildfire problems of the United States continue to plague homeowners, firefighters, and insurers. Beginning in 2006 and ending in 2008 there were over 259,000 wildfires reported in the U.S. resulting in 24.3 million acres consumed. Suppression costs alone are billions of dollars not to mention property losses. The impact on the insurance industry continues to rise at an exponential rate. Wildfire investigations have become more sophisticated over the last few decades. The question--where does one start when investigating a 50,000 acre wildfire is a daunting one.

Matt Blackmer, M.S.C.E., P.E. of Pie Consulting & Engineering, has been asked to speak at this year’s Worley Catastrophe Response – Worley Claims Expo, on February 8 – 10 in Houston, Texas. This popular event will be held at the Hilton Americas Houston, in the Lanier Ballroom – 4th level.
The presentation by Matt Blackmer, entitled “Issues With Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings” features the latest, cutting edge information on claims involving metal buildings, which have become increasingly common in today’s industry. Come to this session and get the opportunity to review the construction and design of metal buildings and the various claims associated with them. Matt’s talk will identify potential problems associated with these buildings as well as repair options commonly utilized for damage from fire, hail, or flood losses, and the weight of ice and snow.
